Invisalign has gained a lot of attention over the years, bringing some misinformation. Our team of doctors is here to help you learn the facts about Invisalign clear aligners and bust some of the myths!
Fiction: Invisalign trays are painful
Many people believe that Invisalign trays will be uncomfortable or irritating because that’s what they’ve heard about traditional braces. However, Invisalign does not use the same wire and bracket approach as metal braces.
Fact: Invisalign trays are very comfortable
Invisalign is made from the flexible SmartTrack material and is completely customized to your smile. Unlike braces, there are no wires or brackets that need to be tightened over time. When directed by your orthodontics, you will replace your Invisalign tray every 1-2 weeks. During this process, you will notice some pressure as your teeth start to shift, but that will subside after a day or two.
Fiction: Invisalign is more expensive than braces
Traditional braces have evolved over the years, making them more affordable and accessible. Many believe that Invisalign will cost more since it is a newer technology. But, do we have some good news for you!
Fact: Invisalign cost is comparable to braces
There is no set number for treatment costs because everyone’s smile is unique. When you visit our offices in Worcester, Auburn, or Spencer, we will work with you to determine the best treatment plan for your budget. Invisalign clear aligners and traditional braces typically cost about the same. If you have dental insurance, it may cover orthodontic treatment. Our team will guide you through this before we begin.
Fiction: It’s hard to maintain Invisalign aligners
When thinking of orthodontic treatment, you may first think of the restrictions that come with it. While there are plenty of rules that come with having metal braces, this isn’t always the case with Invisalign.
Fact: Invisalign is easy to maintain
When using Invisalign clear aligners, you will floss and brush as you usually would and continue your oral hygiene routine. There are also no food restrictions. You will be able to eat and drink whatever you want during treatment with Invisalign. It’s easy to keep your aligners clear, clean, and in good condition. Remove and rinse them with an approved solution and store them in a special care kit.
Fiction: Treatment takes longer with Invisalign
It’s common to assume that Invisalign treatment will take longer since they are removable. That isn’t the case, though!
Fact: Treatment time with Invisalign is similar to metal braces
We see a wide variety of cases at our three office locations, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer regarding treatment time. Invisalign’s treatment time is usually the same (or even less) than the treatment time of traditional braces. Treatment time with metal braces is around two years, whereas Invisalign averages less than two years. Of course, there are many factors to consider, such as orthodontic issues, compliance, and age.
Fiction: Invisalign doesn’t work as well as braces
Some believe that metal braces are more effective because they are fixed on the teeth. But this couldn’t be further from the truth, which makes this a myth worth busting!
Fact: Invisalign is just as effective as metal braces
The original purpose of Invisalign clear aligners was for post-treatment retention, but they have come a long way thanks to technological advancements. Invisalign is just as effective at correcting orthodontic problems as traditional braces. You can achieve the same stunning results with clear aligners as you would with braces when used as directed by Dr. Giarrusso and Dr. Livanos.
